Afriqiyah Woods, DPT
With over 19 years of experience practicing Physical Therapy in New York City, Afriqiyah Woods, DPT views every New Yorker as an “urban athlete”. After graduating from Howard University with Honors in Physical Therapy, Afriqiyah completed a prestigious Sports Medicine fellowship at The American Sports Medicine Institute under renowned orthopedic surgeon, James Andrews M.D. Armed with this expertise she went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Sports Science and Athletic Training from Long Island University. Afriqiyah has extensive experience in treating distance runners including NYC marathoners, weekend warriors, Yoga & Pilates participants, and college athletes. This experience continues to prove invaluable in the treatment of the non-athletic patient with everyday functional injuries. In addition, Afriqiyah has trained numerous Family Medicine residents at Beth Israel Hospital. Afriqiyah is trained in the Graston Technique. She is an APTA Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine section member and she is a certified clinical instructor. Her expertise in Sports and Orthopedics provides emphasis on manual techniques and functional integration with every one hour, one-on-one treatment session. Afriqiyah also has a passion for International Health. Most recently she participated in a medical mission in East Africa offering physical therapy services and education to the disabled. Her hobbies include basketball, running, spinning, and tennis.
